Spinning Update

I'm a relatively new spinner, learning at SPA last year. How could you NOT learn to spin in a room filled with wheels, fiber and spinners? Breathing in all of that fiber that was floating in the air made everyone just a little giddy, I think.

After practicing on a drop spindle, I took a class at a local fiber gallery. Loved it! Of course, the wheel purchase soon followed. I've been trying to spin, but this summer has been pretty slow for me in the fiber arts. The knitting is chugging along, not too many finished objects, and the spinning has happened sporatically. Not to mention the lack of blogging. Probably because there isn't too much blog fodder.

Here's some pictures I took of some spinning successes:

Some purple fiber from my teacher, my first fiber spun completely on my own.

Silk/Merino blend two ply. This is my first try at silk or merino. I enjoyed spinning and was trying for something thinner. Of course, it's not too consistent. I haven't even figured out how many yards it is or what it is going to become, but that will come later.

I have plenty of fiber waiting to be spun:

Here's my fiber stash, such as it is. Of course, at the rate I'm going, this will last me a while!

We're off to Acadia National Park for a long weekend. The plan is, go on Labor Day weekend because the weather will still be warm, and all of the kids will be back at school so hopefully it won't be so crowded.

Love the spinning! Isn't it just amazing to make your own yarn? I've been doing it for a while and I still get the giggles over the whole thing.

Enjoy the long weekend!

Great spinning; I especially love the merino/silk. What a pretty basket full of fiber!

Have a great weekend away :-)

The silk/merino is so pretty! I hope you have a great time at Acadia! It's on my must go to National Parks list.

That handspun yarn looks beautiful to me and you even know how to ply! ooh, and that basket o' fiber just waiting to keep you entertained on a cold winter's night.
