Another Case of Not Jumping on the Bandwagon

Why did I wait so long?

Ravelry has been around for just a few months, and I didn’t ask for an invite early on because, well, I thought I’d wait and see what it was all about. Let's just say I'm usually not the first one to the party. After hearing about it on EVERY blog in the universe, I finally signed up. Then I never got an invite. I heard that the list was long, so I decided to find out exactly how long.

This is where I stand today (courtesy of the very handy “where am I on the list” button on Ravelry):

You signed up on July 5, 2007
You are #14336 on the list.
5020 people are ahead of you in line.
12049 people are behind you in line.
34% of the list has been invited so far

Should I have signed up sooner? Probably (over 14,000 people were more clued-in than I was). Will I get an invitation anytime soon? Probably not. I say it will take at least 6-8 weeks before I get my invite. Does that mean it will be a thing of the past by then? Most assuredly NOT! Plus, I’ll have the added benefit to browse all of the work that the beta testers did this summer. Of course, I’ll be sucked into the vortex of Ravelry as soon as I’m invited, but it will be fun to see what is already built.

Waiting sucks. But I guess I can be comforted in knowing there are over 12,000 other people waiting just like me.

I'm regretting not getting my name in sooner, too. Had I done so earlier, I would have had the summer vacation to play with it. Now I won't get in until after school starts and work gets in the way of my fibery pursuits. Darn my procrastination!!!!!

Sooner than that, I think. Casey said the add rate (which is automatic) is something like 100 a day. And he's hoping to graduate from a beta status before the end of the summer, and then the doors will be open. He's moving to bigger servers here real soon, and then I think he'll be happy to put out the welcom sign.

august 6...2538 in line!

20,211 in line. I feel like a puppy dog begging at the dinner table...maybe tonight, if I look extra cute and behave myself. I think I should start a blog for the people who have not been invited yet. I always fit in better with the "outcasts" anyway.

I got in just a couple weeks ago. What I like best is being able to look up a yarn I have in stash and see what others have knit with it. There are a lot of features, and I don't know what most of them are yet. It can take up a lot of time, so I try to go in with very specific goals. But it is invaluable as a database and gets better as time goes on.
