It's Been Too Long

Well, it looks like I took and unintended blog break for the last few weeks. I was busy for a while, then didn't have my act together by taking pictures and getting them ready so I could tell you all that's been going on. I finally made the time tonight so here's a short recap of the last few weeks.

First, my parents' 50th anniversary party went off without a hitch. It was wonderful. They loved it, the guests raved, there were some moving speeches (by my parents also) and an iMovie slide show that Howie and I put together that was the hit of the party.
Here's a picture of my family. This is just immediate family, with kids, spouses, grandkids (some fiancees thrown in) and one great-grandchild.

I started my new part time job teaching at a local university, and I love it! Life has been a little stressed now that I am working two jobs and I never seem to have a day off anymore. I think I'm going to break down and hire a cleaning person so I don't have to spend my weekends cleaning. I've never had the means to hire someone to clean my house, and the prospect is thrilling! Just need to find the time to figure out who to hire. Know any good cleaning people in Kennebunk Maine?

We have fit in some time for summertime fun, though. We've gone scuba diving a couple of times, and kayaking once with a friend of ours.

Here's me and Dan preparing to get in our boats. Dan was in the single (yellow/red) and Howie and I ride in the tandem (blue). It's was Dan's first time kayaking in the ocean and he did great.

It was an absolutely beautiful day. The ocean couldn't have been calmer and the air clearer. We went out to an offshore island beyond the island pictured. Here's the view of Goat Island Light coming back. The sun was making the lighthouse positively glow:

Our CSA started their pickups two weeks ago so we've been enjoying fresh, local, organic produce. Oh, how I long for these veggies in the middle of February.

I brushed this Chinese Cabbage with olive oil and soy sauce then stuck it right on the grill as is. It was wonderful.

Yes, there has also been knitting:

It's the almost-complete back of a simple cable sweater for my very tall and thin nephew for his 13th birthday. I know, a sweater for a teenage boy's birthday doesn't sound too exciting, but he wears sweaters every day of the winter because he's always cold. I know he'll appreciate it.

I've been spinning too. No pictures though, but I'm just about ready to ply some silk/merino blend that I bought when I got my wheel. The fiber stash is growing so I better get to spinning!

I know there's more to report, but it escapes me right now. Summertime is usually when I slow down on the knitting projects because I HAVE to enjoy the warm weather around here. This is what makes the winters so bearable. In less than two weeks we're heading out for vacation to Eastport, ME. It's about as far east as you can go and still be in the U.S. We'll be diving and relaxing. Postings may be spotty for a while, but I'm still here!

Wow! You certainly have been busy. But as long as there's been time for knitting and spinning, I think you're OK. Enjoy the trip up north!

Yes, you must relish every minute of the summer in New England so that the warm summer memories last you through the April snowstorms. Were there snowstorms in April? Hard to believe now, isn't it? That ocean/sky picture is beutiful.

Oh I so want to get out on the big water in my boat! We got a small one for 11 yr old son, so we've been doing little puddle trips. But you gotta start somewhere, right? Warm summer? I think we've had about 4 days of summer thus far!

Yup it's a kayak. Disgustingly we have 5 of them and there are only 3 of us. BUT the first was a mother's day make up gift to me(Loon 120), great for puddle jumping and putting just about anybody in it. The second was so DH could take DS out (Loon 138T). It is a BARGE. HATE it! Then I got a 15+ foot Necky Elaho with a skeg (shop model from the prior year), I really like this boat, except it is a bit heavy. I'm learning a LOT with it! THEN a friend moved to Australia and practically GAVE us his Necky Elaho with a rudder. Like this a lot too, it's easier (but not as much of a learning experience) with the rudder, but dh broke the cable so it needs repair. THEN we got the kid his very own for xmas when he was 10. It's a 9 or so foot Old Town Rush. Nice little pond/lake boat, again could put just about anybody in it. Moves well, turns quick, but it doesn't track as well as the Loon. Now I just need time, time time!
